Built in the Waiting

"Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

Have you ever felt like life hit pause right after God gave you a promise? Like you had this vision in your heart but everything around you seems to scream, “Not yet”?

That’s exactly where we meet Joseph: a young man with big dreams straight from God. He didn’t ask for trouble but it found him anyway. One day he’s sharing visions with his family, and the next, he’s betrayed, sold into slavery, and locked away for something he didn’t do.

It didn’t make sense.
It didn’t feel fair.

But even in the confusion and the silence, God was still working.

Waiting seasons are hard.
Especially when you feel like you’ve done everything right but life still feels stuck. Like your prayers are hanging in the air unanswered.

Joseph gets it.

He was betrayed by his brothers
Thrown in a pit
Sold off as a slave
Falsely accused
Left in prison
And Forgotten

For years.

No update
No explanation
No breakthrough

But even when nothing seemed to be happening around him, something powerful was happening within him. God was building something on the inside.

He was shaping Joseph's heart. His character. His faith.
So that when the dream came to pass, Joseph was ready. Not just for the position but for the pressure.

Sometimes God delays the promise to develop the person.

So if you feel like you're waiting
If you feel like nothing is moving
If you wonder if God still remembers what He said

He does.

He’s still writing your story
Still working behind the scenes
Still preparing you for everything He has prepared for you

The waiting is not punishment
It’s preparation

So breathe.
Keep showing up.
Let Him build you while you wait.

Joseph’s journey teaches us that even when the promise seems far away, God is never distant. He’s not slow. He’s strategic. And what He starts, He always finishes. Sometimes, God doesn’t rush the process because He’s not just preparing the promise for us. He’s preparing us for the promise.

Prayer:
God, sometimes the waiting feels too long and too heavy. I don’t always understand what You’re doing but I want to trust You like Joseph did. Help me to believe that what You promised is still coming. And while I wait build me shape me. Make me ready.
Amen
